Finally the day will have come - departing Land's End, also known as Cape Cornwall and facing a gruelling
874 miles direct, which will probably strech beyond the 1000 mark, considering they are avoiding A-class roads whenever possible.
Cape Cornwall is one of the most beautiful sites Britain has to offer with many golfing competitions
and even weddings taking place here. Among the driest areas in the country and when you stand at the southern-most point and
face south, you are looking over the channel into the world beyond. Sadly though, they will have their backs to Cape Cornwall
throughout the trek.
After 12 km, they will be on the A3071, passing through Penzance. Penzance is directly west of Land's
End and sets you on your way out of the far south-west. It is home to Penzance Harbour which is surprisingly busy during the
summer months. It also hosts a motorcycle rally championship which, funnily enough, finishes at John O'Groats.
They then begin to slowly turn north-east, passing through Longrock, Marazion, Red Ruth before taking
the A3047 and B3298 to Truro, after 51 km. This will most likely be their first major rest-stop and it's an ideal place to
do it. The town of Truro is home to about 12,000 residents, most of whom work locally in Truro's thriving business community.
It is also home to Victoria Park - a 400 acre forest which is said to be well worth a visit. It has a strong Victorian influence
and has done since its early days as a small market town. The mayor is Mr Bill Mills - the longest serving (living) mayor
in Britain. Truro is well loved by locals and tourists alike and will be an ideal resting place before Thomas and Andrena
set off for Foxhole.
Taking the A3058 and laterally, the A30, they will continue through Roche and eventually arrive at
their first destination of Bodmin.
