Come Day 3, Thomas and Andrena will have already cycled a staggering 120 miles, however they can
do it with smiles on their faces since this is only a 50 mile day - one of the shortest of the whole trek.
They depart Crediton, taking the A3072, which leads them onto the A396 taking them into Tiverton.
The story of Tiverton as a town can be told, solely by looking at the town crest. It contains a picture
of St Peter's Church at the centre with two bridges below. These represent the two fords that used to make up this town. Indeed,
the town itself used to be named Twyford (meaning two fords). Tiverton was made famous thanks to its very successful woolen
industry. Not alot can be said for it on a tourist front but I'm sure it will have a park bench which is all our cyclists
will be wanting at that time!
They leave Tiverton, following the A38, passing Taunton. Taunton has changed a great deal from when
it was formed. The historic sites tell a story of wars, battles and mostly victories. Taunton Castle, Willows & Wetlands
Visitor Centre, Hestercombe Gardens, Hatch Court, Gaulden Manor, Cothay Manor, Barrington Court and Lytes Cary Manor are all
said to be sites of great significance and interest. Sadly, Thomas and Andrena will have no time for sight-seeing, leaving
Taunton, along the A38 to Burnham and Highbridge.
