Day 8 - the toughest of the trek. Though still not at the 'hilly' stage, it is a total of 65 miles
- all of which will be following the busy A6 heading directly northwards.
Having said that, 65 miles may well be among the most enjoyable due to the stunning scenery in the
area - the scenery which inspired great writers such as William Wordsworth The Lake District, taking in Windermere, Keswick,
Kendal and Penrith boasts some of the greatest lakes and roaming land the country has to offer. Scafell is England's highest
peak and Lake Windermere, it's deepest. Indeed any area in England over 3,000 ft is located here. People flock here from all
over the world to enjoy the peace and tranquility as well as the excitment of the prosperous towns, Keswick and
Bowness-on-Windermere. The zoologist in you will also admire the varied wildlife located here -
some of which is native to this land, such as the red squirrel.
The Lake District continues to impress first-time visitors as well as provide the best holiday destination
year on year for the addicts. When Thomas and Andrena call home from this particular part of the country, I for one, will
be a very jealous man indeed.
After passing Penrith, they will continue northwards, pasing Carlisle and finally enter their native
Scotland - all uphill from here!
