After cycling through the wonders of the Lakes, it's back on the open road come day 9 as they proceed
northwards, albeit in a different, slightly more mountainous country for what is another cycle appoaching the 70 mile mark.
The 69 mile day begins at Rockcliffe and following the A7 and the B7068, approximately three and
a half hours in, they will pass by the very aptly named Boreland. Taking the B723 and B7078, they pass by Poldean, Beattock
and arrive at Abington for their major stop. Abington is truly picturesque. It has everything a sight-seer could want, only
on a far smaller scale. The village of Abington main st (pictured) is centred around the hotel on one side and the village
shop on the other. Hidden away up a woodland path from the centre of the village is Glencaple Parish Church, a beautiful little
gem of grey and brown stone edged in red. When its foundation stone was laid on 9th of August 1898 its location must
have been quietly idyllic. Today it lies close to the M74, though the traffic isn't nearly as intrusive as you might expect.
A beautiful Scottish settlement where Thomas and Andrena will hopefully have a little time to enjoy.
They continue along the A702, which becomes the busy A73, passing Roberton. The A73 becomes the B7055
as they enter their destination of Rigside in the border between Dumfries & Galloway and Lanarkshire.
