Day 10 was a killer in terms of distance, but thankfully, the fact they cycled that bit more the
previous day means they can cycle that bit less today. Day 11 is a boring one. A very boring one! The only settlements that
are passed through on this day is Perth and er, Dalwhinnie...
Perth has been the name chosen for a number of other settlements throughout the world,
most notably Perth, Western Australia. This name was chosen by Sir George Murray, Secretary of State for War and the Colonies
who chose it because he was born in what was then a royal burgh of Perth, Scotland. Perth's
city centre is compact with the mighty River Tay along side. Much of the Perth's High Street is a traffic free precinct with
a wide variety of shops, large and small. Many of the streets around the centre are comprised of elegant Georgian terraced
houses. Perth has always been a centre for farming and less dependent on the traditional Scottish industries of fishing, textiles
and engineering. Not only did this give rise to it's relatively small size but also to it's air of prosperity. Nearby is the
historic Scone Palace and Perth Racecourse. One of its biggest claims to fame in recent years is that it was one
of many sites that were chosen to film the recent Pirates of the Caribbean movie!
They depart Perth, travelling along the A912, the A9 and the A889 before arriving at their destination
of Dalwhinnie, central Scotland.
I did say it was a boring one.
